Article of the month: Tapping Technique

There's some quotes about Tapping in BJJ such as:

"Tap or Nap"

"Tap or Snap"

The normal way you signal a submission is being submitted in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is to tap your opponent three times or more.

The important thing that you have to note down about tapping is:

  • When you tap, make sure you do it hard enough to any of your partner body, so your partner can feel it (this is more recommended);
  • Or tap yourself or the mat where they can see and/or hear it;
  • Or verbally tap by saying “Tap!”;
  • Or loudly tap the mat with your foot so they can hear it.

Likewise, the person who applying the techniques, be aware of your training partner tapping and stop whatever you are doing when he does so. Do ALLOW your training partner to tap when you're applying submission.

I'm bolding the "allow" word because most of the time, there's a monster that called EGO blocking your mind to do more safe training.

Why?

Because it's hard to find a good training partner to develop your techniques, so take care your training partner.

Tapping is just part of training and there is no shame in it. Don’t worry about winning or losing. Just try the techniques you’ve learned to the best of your ability and tap when you need to, ideally far before it hurts. So you can still training BJJ in the next class.
